Ashford hails Colwill’s maturity
Cardiff midfielder Cian Ashford said Rubin Colwill, 24, has become a “key man” for the Bluebirds after captaining the side in a 2-2 draw at Derby on Saturday. With Calum Chambers injured, Colwill wore the armband and helped the team recover from two early setbacks. Ashford praised Colwill’s “mature game” and his ability to create positive moments on the ball.
Colwill’s season began strongly, with a stunning late free-kick against Wrexham on the opening weekend. He then turned provider at Pride Park, setting up Yousuf Salech for the second goal after Ashford’s opener. Ashford noted that Colwill is “a very big lad” and added that he “might get his head on a couple of goals this year.”
Moylan’s quick impact
Ashford also spoke highly of summer signing Jack Moylan, who arrived from Lincoln City. Moylan has already opened his Cardiff account with a goal against Swindon Town in the Carabao Cup and is forming a positive relationship in the final third. Ashford, a 21-year-old academy graduate, said Moylan is “quite easy to play with” and has settled in “quickly.”
"He’s come in and done well," Ashford said. "Not only can I say that I’ve got a good connection with him, but a few other boys will agree with that. He’s been a good addition to the squad."
Looking ahead
Ashford expressed optimism for the season, saying he has “high hopes for me and the team.” He added that he is “hoping we can go on and have a good season together.” With Colwill’s leadership and Moylan’s early contributions, Cardiff looks to build on a solid start to the campaign.
The comments come as the Bluebirds look to strengthen their midfield options and rely on key players to navigate the challenges of the Championship. Ashford’s praise highlights the confidence within the squad as they aim for a successful season.
