Cardiff City FC Community Foundation held its first-ever Friends and Family Day during Saturday's Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic. The event in the Ninian Lounge brought together the Foundation team, partners, service users and trustees to celebrate its community impact.
The club's official charity focuses on education, health and outreach projects across South Wales. Guests saw a choir performance by pupils from partner school Pencaerau Primary, while the Ninian Stand featured a soft play area with football activities for young fans. Beneficiaries from projects like the Cardiff City Veterans Hub and Inclusive Kicks attended, with some youngsters selected for leadership walking out as matchday mascots.
Gold medal-winning sprinter Jeremiah Azu, a Friend of the Foundation, joined the event in the lounge. Players warmed up in Foundation-branded tops and wore the charity's logo on their match shirts for the game, which Cardiff won 3-1. Jack Moylan scored twice in that victory, taking his season tally to three goals. This win, part of a recent upturn in form, provides a boost as the team prepares for its next challenge.
QR codes and the slogan 'Changing Lives, Transforming Communities' were displayed around the stadium to encourage donations. Supporters could text BLUEBIRDS to 70085 to donate £1, with £10 funding a primary school session and £100 providing a session in the stadium's Sensory Room. The Foundation stated that if 10,000 fans gave £1, it would fund the dementia support group at the stadium for a full year.
The club emphasised that fans and communities across South Wales are at its heart. The victory over Charlton Athletic, secured with goals from Jack Moylan and another player, moves Cardiff City to 21st in the Championship standings, having collected seven points from their opening eight matches. Their next fixture is away to Blackburn Rovers on 10 October. More information on the Foundation's work is available.

Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy provided an update on striker Yousef Salech, who injured his shoulder in the 3-1 win over Charlton. Barry-Murphy said the club was initially concerned but the player later looked comfortable. "I've seen him in the changing rooms and it doesn't look bad. So fingers crossed," the manager stated. He confirmed the issue is unrelated to Salech's previous nerve injury. The striker, who scored in the victory, has three weeks to recover before the next match. Cardiff, 21st with seven points, face Blackburn on 10 October.
