A popular McDonald's branch in Cardiff city centre has been forced to close following a 'pest sighting'. McDonald's on St Mary Street in Cardiff city centre has been closed for around four weeks to allow a pest control firm to deal with the issue. It is understood the move followed someone seeing a cockroach. The usually busy restaurant currently stands empty on one of Cardiff's busiest streets, with signs on the windows that state the restaurant has closed for 'maintenance.' A spokesperson for the global fast food chain has said the site should reopen by the end of this week as the issue has now been dealt with by their pest control partner. Environmental health teams at Cardiff Council are aware of the investigation and have been assisting McDonald's with their enquiries. A McDonald’s spokesperson said: 'Food safety and hygiene is of the utmost importance to us. Following a pest sighting, we made the proactive decision to temporarily close our Cardiff St Mary Street restaurant while our pest control partner thoroughly investigated the issue. 'We have remained closed until experts were confident the issue had been dealt with, which is now has. 'The restaurant has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitised and plans to welcome back customers later this week.' A spokesperson for Cardiff Council said: “The Shared Regulatory Services were made aware that the business closed voluntarily and advice has been given by Environmental Health Officers to assist them with their enquiries.”
