Cardiff City could receive a transfer fee between €3m and €4.5m for defender Jesper Daland as three European clubs monitor the 26-year-old. The Norwegian, currently on loan at Viking FK until January, is considered surplus to requirements by manager Brian Barry-Murphy.

Scouts from German sides Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt, plus French club Lille, have watched Daland play. No concrete offers have been submitted.

A sale would provide Cardiff with funds to strengthen a squad sitting 19th in the Championship with 11 points from 11 games, a record of two wins, five draws and four losses. The club aims to be more effective in the January window after a frustrating summer. Daland's contract runs until the summer of 2028, having joined from Cercle Brugge in 2024.

Cardiff have ample cover in central defence with Gabriel Osho, Will Fish, Krystian Bielik, Dylan Lawlor and Calum Chambers available. Daland has featured in Viking's Champions League campaign, playing against Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and GNK Dinamo.

The club's immediate focus is a home Championship fixture against Birmingham on Saturday 24 October. Their recent form has been mixed, with two wins, one draw and two losses in their last five matches. In that victory, top scorer J. Moylan, who has six goals this season, scored twice, while in the draw at Middlesbrough, Jack Moylan and Ollie Tanner were on the scoresheet. The team has scored 18 goals and conceded 17 so far this campaign.

Cardiff will continue to track Daland's situation through the winter window, with any potential deal expected to impact their January recruitment plans.
