Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of 17-year-old midfielder Charlie Holt for their under-21 squad. The teenager arrives from Manchester City's academy as the Championship club looks to bolster its development pathway.
Holt, born in Burnley, made 12 appearances last season as Manchester City's Under-18s won the Premier League North title. He is now eligible to feature for Cardiff's U21 side and has outlined his ambition to progress towards the first team, citing recent academy graduates like Cian Ashford and Joel Colwill as examples.
"I'm very pleased to be here," Holt said. "It's a great opportunity and a different challenge for me."
He described himself as an energetic player with technical ability and hopes to contribute goals. "The opportunities that you can get here at Cardiff City are clear to see," he added. "It's a great place to be."
The move comes as Cardiff's senior side sits 21st in the Championship table with seven points from eight games. Their recent form shows one win, one draw, and three losses from the last five matches. The club's next fixture is away to 16th-placed Blackburn Rovers on 10 October.
Holt will continue his development within the Welsh club's system, with the immediate focus on integrating into the U21 setup.
