Cardiff City defender Perry Ng has received Singapore citizenship and is awaiting FIFA clearance to represent the Singapore national team. The 30-year-old shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, posting a photograph with his new passport.
Ng's eligibility comes through his late paternal grandfather, James, who was born in Singapore. The Football Association of Singapore supported his application through the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme. Ng had previously become a permanent resident in March 2025 and has made regular trips to the country, including a familiarisation stint with the national team last September.
FAS president Forrest Li welcomed the development, confirming the association is finalising the necessary paperwork with FIFA. "Players must show that they can integrate into our society, and are prepared to take up the responsibilities that come with citizenship," Li said. "Perry has shown exactly that."
Despite this significant international step, Ng remains a key figure for Cardiff City, where he recently signed a two-year contract extension. The Bluebirds are currently 21st in the Championship with seven points from eight games, having won just once in their last five outings. Their next match is away to Blackburn on 10 October. Ng will continue his club duties while the final administrative steps for his international future are completed. If cleared in time, he could feature for Singapore ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
